Message from His Excellency Kairat Abusseitov, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the UK

Dear Friends!

Kazakhstan is a country with a long history driven by its position at the cross-roads of Europe and Asia, most famously as part of the Silk Road. Its people are the product of the wide open spaces of vast steppes, mountains and deserts. It is also blessed with huge natural resources and a dynamic people which are helping the country be a major economic driver of the 21^st Century. The country has adopted a strategy ‘Path to Europe’ which aims to bring increasing trading and cultural links between Europe and Kazakhstan.

The people of Kazakhstan are proud of their traditions. The rich culture finds expression in many ways, including production of quality items such as rich carpets, beautiful silks, felt and jewellery. Although we are proud to explore our diverse traditions in the products that we make, we are also famous for exploring the frontiers of contemporary design.

“Kazakhstan for you” promotes traditional and modern Kazakh products for the UK, Europe and beyond. It was the first shop in the UK to bring Kazakh craft and design to the general public. Take time to look around – you will find items you might expect and many that might surprise you. The site also provides background information about the products and Kazakh culture in general. I hope, therefore, that you will take time to explore our traditions and get to know us and, if anything takes your fancy, purchase your own piece of our traditions for yourself.
