Gathering Kazakhs from Across Europe

15,000 Kazakhs live across Europe – some descended from those who fled the 1917 Revolution, some far more recent. Every year many of them gather together to celebrate their traditions (and the odd football match!) in an event called Quryltai. For the first time London hosted the event, from 29-31 May 2009.

On an unusually hot Saturday, a playing field in Walthamstow saw Kazakh from a range of European countries descend in their football gear for some hard fought matches. Plenty of Kazakh food was on offer and KazakhstanForYou presented our range of fashions and crafts for display and purchase.

On the Sunday the Kazakh Quryltai Gala Concert was held in the Walthamstow Assembly Hall with a wide range of traditional music and dancing along with some classical pieces. A great time was had by the many who came. KazakhstanForYou was also please to present our range of fashions and crafts at the concert venue.

KazakhstanForYou would like to thank the organisers of the Quryltai for the invitation to participate and to thank all those who visited our stalls at the events and hope that those Kazakhs who came from outside of the UK had a safe journey home and that we can all gather together again in the not too distant future.
