Batik picture on Crepe de Chine 'Girl on a Buffalo'

The picture is inspired by the prehistoric artists whose petroglyphs (rock art) of Scythian period (400-200 BC) are found in different parts of Central Asia. The picture 'Girl on a Buffalo' is a fantasy on the harmony in the world, about womanhood and manhood. Often pagan people associated a buffalo with masculinity; while the figure of the girl looks very feminine, delicate and graceful. The sun sign is the symbol of life and its infinity. The picture was made using the method of hot batik which is also an old method of painting where a melted mass of coloured wax is applied layer by layer. The fabric used is natural Crepe de Chine. Made by Kazakhstan artist Oksana Magdalyuk.
